Saliva DNA test home kit UK

DNA Genotyping Test Home Kit UK

A saliva based Global Screening Array that reads selected genetic positions across the genome. It is genotyping, not whole genome sequencing, and it is not a diagnostic genetic test.

What this page is designed to solve
Genetic information can feel definitive even when the science is probabilistic. This page separates what the array measures from what a report can responsibly conclude, with privacy and confirmatory testing treated as central parts of the decision.

When the test may be useful

Begin with the question you are trying to answer

  • Informed curiosity about selected common genetic variants
  • Understanding the limits of array based genotyping
  • Obtaining report content included by the laboratory service
  • People who have considered privacy and family implications

Choose a clinical route instead when

  • Ruling out an inherited condition
  • Explaining active symptoms without clinical assessment
  • Testing children without appropriate consent and safeguards
  • Making treatment decisions from an unconfirmed finding

Report framework

What the array can report

Selected variantsDefined SNP positions included on the array
Genotype callsThe allele combination reported at each measured position
Interpretation layerAssociations included within the supplied report
Coverage limitUnmeasured positions and many rare variants
ConfirmationClinical testing may be needed for an important finding
PrivacyGenetic data is permanent and potentially family relevant

A different kind of result scale

How to read a genotyping report responsibly

DNA results do not sit on a simple low to high scale. The colour system below describes reporting status and the level of clinical certainty instead.

ReportedA variant or association appears within the laboratory report.
Not reportedNo relevant result was generated within the array positions and reporting rules.
Limited coverageThe array does not examine every genetic change or every part of the genome.
Confirm clinicallyA medically important finding may require a separate accredited clinical test.

What the array does

Selected positions, not every letter of DNA

The Global Screening Array measures predefined genetic variants across the genome. It can generate a broad genotype profile for the positions included on the platform.

What it does not do

It does not sequence the complete genome, detect every rare or structural change, or provide a clinical diagnosis. A finding that could affect medical care may require confirmation through an appropriate clinical genetics service.

Privacy is part of suitability

Questions to consider before sending a sample

Storage

Read how the sample and data are stored, retained and deleted.

Unexpected findings

Consider whether you are prepared to receive information that may be uncertain or emotionally significant.

Family relevance

Your result can sometimes have implications for biological relatives as well as for you.

From order to report

How the home test pathway works

Choose with purpose

Review the exact markers, the collection method and the important limitations before ordering.

Receive and register

The kit is dispatched with the required equipment and registration instructions for the relevant laboratory pathway.

Prepare correctly

Follow the product specific timing, fasting, medicine and supplement guidance. Preparation affects interpretation.

Collect at home

Collect the saliva sample exactly as instructed. Insufficient or incorrectly labelled samples may not be suitable for analysis.

Return promptly

Use the supplied return materials and remain within the stated sample stability window.

View results securely

The report is delivered through the secure digital results pathway once laboratory processing and quality checks are complete.

Questions, without the heavy boxes

Common questions

Is this a blood test?

No. This product uses saliva. Blood test wording has intentionally not been added to the title because that would misrepresent the collection method.

Is genome wide genotyping the same as whole genome sequencing?

No. The array reads selected predefined positions. Whole genome sequencing examines far more of the genome and has different analytical and clinical limits.

Can a reported variant diagnose a disease?

Not by itself. The association, quality of evidence, ancestry and laboratory method all matter. A medically important result may require confirmatory clinical testing.

What does no reported variant mean?

It means that the report did not identify a relevant result within the positions and rules used. It does not rule out every inherited condition.

Why does privacy need special attention?

DNA data is permanent, may reveal unexpected information and can have implications for relatives. Read the consent, storage and deletion terms before ordering.

Important medical guidance

Home testing provides laboratory information, not a diagnosis. Do not delay urgent care while waiting for a kit or result. Call 999 for a medical emergency. Use NHS 111 or an appropriate clinician when symptoms are urgent but not immediately life threatening. Do not start, stop or alter prescribed treatment solely because of a home result.
